There are days when our bodies seem to be crying out for more liquid, especially in the summertime or after a weekend of drinking and indulging. Topping up your body with fresh water is always the number one choice for optimal health, but sometimes we need a little extra sweetness to go with the hydration. If you have been drinking alcohol all weekend, you’ll be dehydrated and your body will also be lacking in sugars, which makes this drink the perfect remedy for a delicious, feel-good Monday morning hydration boost!
Restore Hydration The Heavenly Way
You’ll need the following ingredients to get this iced tea underway:
- About 4 – 6 rooibos teabags
- Boiling water – about 1 litre
- A litre of chilled fresh apple juice
- A handful of fresh mint
- Loads of ice
Boil the water first and steep the teabags in it in a large glass jug for a good ten minutes or so. Once you’ve got a rich, warm red tea, scoop the teabags out and add the apple juice and half of the mint. Bruise the mint leaves slightly so as to release the scent and flavour and place the entire jug full into the fridge for about an hour.
Once out the fridge, add the rest of the mint and the ice and stir it up before serving. You should get a pungent scent of mint coming from the jug and you should be able to taste the freshness from it’s leaves. The sweetness from the apple juice will complement the rooibos tea flavour, which is high in antioxidants and perfect for a pick-me-up on a Monday morning.
Tip: another option is to blitz all the ingredients together in a blender – ice included – to make a bit of a juicy cocktail appeal. You probably won’t need to put the jug in the fridge if you go this route.
